Yes you do. And yes, we do link building!

At the risk of sounding slightly ranty, what is the point of an SEO agency who refuses to work on a core element of SEO? Anyone can tell you need to get more links, the skill is in actually delivering them.

Link Building isn’t a dirty word – Google introduced PageRank back in ’97 and changed the search world as we know it. That genie is now out of the bottle – websites need backlinks. We know that Google say site wide pagerank is not a thing now (although homepagerank is according to the recent leaks!) but authority and the (tier of the) sites linking to you continues to play a role in how well your site will rank.

Google (currently) say “The best way to get other sites to create high-quality, relevant links to yours is to create unique, relevant content that can naturally gain popularity in the Internet community. Creating good content pays off: Links are usually editorial votes given by choice, and the more useful content you have, the greater the chances someone else will find that content valuable to their readers and link to it”

That’s sound advice but it doesn’t help with the practicalities. If you won’t rank without back links and a lot of new pieces of content* are being published on the internet every day, how will anyone who owns a great website ever find your engaging content to link to it?

Link building doesn’t have to be low quality, there are natural places to link to your business across the internet, it is just a case of making that connection.

*Its a lot – variously the internet tells us it’s 372,374 new websites per day, wordpress publishes 70 million posts each month – and it all adds up to 2.5 quintillion bytes of data a day. Those figures are from before LinkedIn Gurus learned about AI. Even asking Google gets About 13,040,000,000 results – which nicely illustrates the problem (this page makes 13,040,000,001)
